President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has tasked the Ministry of Defence and the Military High Command to begin the process of establishing a War College in the country this year.
According to him, the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) would provide the seed capital for the establishment of the college.
A war college is a senior military academy which is normally intended for veteran military officers and whose purpose is to educate and ‘train on’ senior military tacticians, strategists, and leaders.
President Akufo-Addo was speaking at the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) West African Security Services Association (WASSA 2022) at the GAF Headquarters in Accra yesterday.
WASSA affords the forces the opportunity to fraternise and socialise as well as reflect on its performance in the past year. It also allows GAF to project into the New Year its activities to be undertaken.
President Akufo-Addo applauded GAF for being prepared to put their lives on the line to keep the country safe, safeguard the country’s sovereignty and integrity, adding that “the government and the people of Ghana continue to thank you for all your efforts and achievements.”
He also commended GAF for it display and presentation it put up in Cape Coast to commemorate the country’s Independence Day, last year.
“We have no doubt that we will enjoy the same quality of performance in Ho in the Volta Region on 6th March, this year to commemorate our 66th year of independence,” he added.
President Akufo-Addo assured GAF of government’s support in transforming it into a formidable modern force adding, “we will continue to help enhance the capacity and capabilities of the Armed Forces towards the development of our nation,” he added.
The Minister of Defence, Dominic Ntiwul said the retooling of all the services among other commissioning of projects and handing over of equipment was an attestation of the government’s commitment to the people.
“Let us therefore support the government’s effort by providing an enabling and creative environment for accelerating national development and growth,” he added.
Mr Ntiwul commended the military and its civilian staff for their dedication to duty.
It was an exciting moment when President Akufo-Addo and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Korle Klottey Constituency, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings took the stage to dance.
Audience were also thrilled by award winning singer and rapper Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kwaku Frimpong popularly known as Black Sherif.
