Atletico Madrid target Fabregas

CESC Fabregas has emerged as a transfer target for Atletico Madrid with his contract at Chelsea having entered its final year.

The Spaniard will become a free agent next summer and, according to The Mirror, has piqued the interest of Diego Simeone and Co at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Fabregas has been a regular fixture in the Blues’ midfield under Maurizio Sarri following a spell on the sidelines owing to injury at the beginning of the season.

The midfielder, however, has much competition in the middle of the park, with N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek all vying for starting places.

One potential stumbling block for Atletico, however, is that Fabregas appears to be re-energised since the arrival of Sarri.

Chelsea have made a scintillating start to the campaign, level on points at the top of the table with Manchester City and Liverpool, and the 31-year-old is relishing life under his new coach.

“I wish he came a bit earlier. To be honest, it’s a little bit late now in my career,” Fabregas said last week of Sarri. “Definitely, I’m very happy with him.”

“I’d love to stay at the club. I’ve been very happy for the last four years and a half, we’ve had great success, won many things.

“I feel I still have a lot of football left in me but it is now up to the club.” – MailOnline
