Assembly to give OLL Girls’ Senior High School facelift

Mr William Aduum, the Kassena Nankana Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has given the assurance that the Assembly would address all the needs of Our Lady of Lourdes Girls’ Senior High school as a matter of priority.
He said government had also awarded the Navrongo-Naaga road on contract, which would soon commence to solve the school’s road network problem saying, “The NPP government has education as its highest priority hence the introduction of the Free Senior High School system”.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Aduum
appealed to management, parents and students to remain patient since the government would never abandon them adding that, “We shall work to ensure that GETFund comes to your rescue to provide you with more classroom blocks and at least a pick-up vehicle to facilitate your movement”.

The Our Lady of Lourdes (OLL) Girls’ Senior High School in Navrongo had over the years been neglected in the Kassena Nankana Municipality.
Currently, the school has no vehicles, water, road, teachers’ bungalows and other infrastructure to befit its status as a major girls’ senior high school in the area.

The distance from the school to town is about 13 kilometres and there is no single vehicle to convey students to the hospital when they fall sick, a situation which is hampering teaching and learning.
The NDC administration relocated the school from the middle of Navrongo and provided modern infrastructure, but since then, nothing new has been added in terms of infrastructure.

When the GNA visited the school premises on Wednesday, only one of the three boreholes was functional, which authorities indicated if something urgent was not done and the remaining one breaks down, the school might be forced to close.

There are some abandoned on-going projects at various stages, some wood and iron rods are left to the mercy of the weather and only three bungalows meant for teachers were completed while the road leading to the school’s compound had been washed away.

A teacher who pleaded anonymity with the GNA explained that because the environment was in a deep farming area acquired for the construction, the compound was susceptible to reptiles and stressed the importance of tarring the roads and provision of a vehicle to convey students to hospital in cases of emergency.
