Assembly members push for functioning sub-structures

Assembly members have advocated for the creation of sub-structures of the assemblies for full efficient and effective participation of the people at the grassroots.

They also urged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives to work effectively and efficiently with the unit committees to monitor contractors, draw community action plans and use it to advocate development instead of relying solely on the District Assemblies Common Fund.

The Assembly members advocated at a workshop on capacity building on the district assembly concept and local governance operations to help champion and promote the operations of the district assemblies at Akim Oda in the Eastern Region.

Jonathan Awuah, the Eastern Regional Economic Planning Officer, urged the participants to keep abreast with the legal instrument of the assembly concept to empower themselves and enable them to contribute effectively and efficiently at the assembly sessions.

Christiana Dugbazah, the Human Resource Manager of the Birim Central Assembly, explained that assembly members were at the heart of the decentralisation system, hence her decision with management to organise the programme to equip them with the requisite knowledge and skills about the operations of the district assemblies to function effectively and efficiently.

She noted that as representatives of their electoral areas, assembly members ought to work diligently devoid of political colourisation to improve on the living conditions of the people. –GNA
