The Western Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Felix Fosu-Agyeman, has charged assembly members to be ambassadors of crime prevention, maintenance of peace and security in their communities.
He said, as key leaders, assembly members should partner the police to flush out criminals in their communities.
DCOP Fosu-Agyeman said these when he met assembly members from the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA) last Friday to discuss security issues and also seek their support in maintaining law and order in the region.
He told the meeting that in Japan, the police focused on involving the citizenry and educating them in the maintenance of law and order to ensure that miscreants, evil doers and robbers do not have any room to operate.
DCOP Fosu-Agyeman said criminals were motivated to hit targets where they were certain their victims “are not alert and vigilant. It doesn’t matter you are well trained, if you are not vigilant, you can be victimised. Be watchful and observant. Give information about miscreants, suspects and criminals to the police. Security is a shared responsibility.”
He urged parents to advise their children to stop going to night clubs or going out late in the nights, among others, so they don’t become victims of kidnappings.
DCOP Fosu-Agyeman also warned: “Don’t allow other persons to pick your children from school, one day they won’t come home. Children should not accept gums or food from people they don’t know or are not familiar with. They should not accept gifts from strangers. Again, don’t leave your children alone at the car parks. Keep a low profile.”
The Presiding Member for EKMA, Mr John Davies, thanked the commander for the security tips, and described the meeting as very fruitful, pledging that the group will partner the Command in crime prevention and also serve as worthy ambassadors of security in their communities.
