Metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives and their coordinating directors have signed a performance contract that seeks to provide a working document for enhanced delivery.
The contract spells out in details what the MMDCEs and MMDCDs should be doing focusing on in executing development programmes that would see to the transformation of their respective assemblies.
It formed part of the Local Government Service’s performance contract that focus on some key objectives that should be achieved by the assemblies within this year.
During the signing ceremony, the Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan and the Regional Co-ordinating Director, Kingsley Agyei Boahene, signed for the Central Regional Co-ordinating Council.
In his address before the signing ceremony, the Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan explained that, the signing of the document require that all MMDCEs and MMDCDs provide quality leadership to transform the assemblies.
He expressed disappointment in the performance of the various assemblies during the previous assessment, saying, “Our performance was very bad and we need to double our efforts if we are to meet the targets set in the document”.
He said the Agona West Municipal Assembly which topped the regional ranking in terms of the performance contract only managed to place 21st position in the national ranking.
He indicated that 14 of the assemblies placed between 100 and 200 position but was quick to say that the assemblies can change the narrative if personnel and leadership put their shoulders to the wheel and work with one accord.
Mr Duncan further said that, the performance of the various assemblies was critical towards the transformation of the Central Region in general.
To motivate the assemblies to excel in the current performance contract, he said, the RCC would award five MMDCEs whose district would be within first to the 20th position after the evaluation had been completed.
He admonished the MMDCEs to double their efforts and work hard towards ensuring that their work impact positively on their respective areas.
He also urged them to involve all personnel in their assemblies in the implementation of programmes and policies that would be executed, saying, “As leaders, you cannot work in isolation so you must bring everybody on board”.
The Dean of MMDCEs in the Central Region, Nicholas Kofi Baako, for his part, pledged their commitment in meeting the targets set in the performance contract.
