Metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies have been asked to monitor and supervise projects to avoid delays and shoddy works by contractors since the government is committed, dedicated and determined to providing infrastructure and logistics for growth and development of communities.
It is mandatory on the assemblies to take all projects seriously and ensure they are executed well enough to benefit the residents.
Due to lack of monitoring and supervision, many projects have been carried out at a slow pace, shoddy, uncompleted on schedule and ended up not meeting standards.
This was revealed when Tangoba Abayage and Alfred Amoah, the Upper East Regional Minister and the Municipal Chief Executive of Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Assembly in the Western North Region respectively, separately inspected projects at various stages to ascertain various challenges facing the communities and also educate and sensitise constituents on the government’s policies and programmes.
Madam Abayage noted that providing infrastructure and logistics were meant to fast-track knowledge and skill acquisition of the citizenry to aid them contribute towards improving livelihoods and interventions that would also transform the economy and alleviate poverty.
She urged constituents to laud the government’s prudent policies, programmes and interventions geared towards creating jobs, wealth and improving livelihoods of the citizenry.
Mr Amoah cited Free Senior High School, Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty, Planting for Food and Jobs, Nations Builder’s Corps, Planting for Food and Export and Rural development (PERD), One District, One Factory, $1million dollar per Constituency, One District One Warehouse and One Village One Dam as some interventions to ameliorate the plight of the citizenry.
He also highlighted a number of projects undertaken in the municipality which, included reshaping of feeder roads, construction of classroom blocks and footbridges, Community based Health Planning Services compound, ongoing lecture halls and administration for Bibiani Health College, financial support and assistance to brilliant, but needy pupils and students, supply of medical equipment to Bibiani government hospital and scholarship package for ten students to study medicine in Cuba.
Mr Amoah reiterated the need for residents to be patient and tolerant with the government to develop the country since four years was not enough to transform the country. -GNA
