Ashaiman NDC parliamentary aspirant dies

Mr Emmanuel Max-Voy, a National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) parliamentary aspirant in the upcoming parliamentary primary in the Ashaiman constituency has passed away.

He passed away on Sunday at the Ridge Hospital where he was receiving treatment following a short illness.

The deceased was the only person challenging the candidature of the incumbent (NDC) MP for Ashaiman, Mr Ernest Henry Norgbey.

He successfully filed his nomination about two weeks ago at the Ashaiman NDC constituency office.

The NDC constituency secretary, Mr Allan De-Graft Johnson, who confirmed the death of the aspirant could not give further details, saying the party is yet to meet with the family of the deceased.

“The party is yet to meet with the family to find out more about the death of our brother and comrade, we shall officially communicate with the public,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mr Norgbey has suspended all his campaign activities following the death of his contender.

“The campaign team of the Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, Ernest Henry Norgbey has with immediate effect suspended all campaign activities ahead of the party’s General primaries to elect parliamentary candidate for the constituency,” a statement from his campaign office stated.

“It is heartbreaking to learn about the sudden demise of our beloved comrade, Emmanuel Max-Voy. We pray to the Lord for the repose of his gentle soul and pray for strength and fortitude for his family and all loved ones he has left behind.

Ernest Norgbey, in solidarity with the mourning of the death of his colleague and comrade, has decided to, with immediate effect, suspend all his campaign activities and accordingly, instruct all his teaming supporters to withdraw from circulating all forms of campaign materials and campaigning in order to show honour and respect to the departed soul of our late brother.”

It added that party members should be “circumspect in your commentary, desist from speculations and only author words of peace and unity in this difficult times as we eulogise our brother”.

The late Max-Voy was an aspirant during the last primary that saw Mr Norgbey unseat the then incumbent Member of Parliament for Ashaiman and the Deputy Majority Leader of Parliament, Alfred Agbesi.

The NDC would be voting on Sunday, August 24 to elect parliamentary candidates nationwide to represent them in the 2020 general election.
