The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (AshMA) has rendered account of its stewardship over the past three years to residents during a maiden meet-the-press organised last Tuesday.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Albert Boakye Okyere, said because the municipality was commercial city, the assembly had put in place a number of measures to enhance the socio-economic development of residents.
Notable among them, he stated were improvement in security, infrastructure development, good governance, local economic development, improving teaching and learning in schools and sanitation among others.
He said success had been chalked in all these areas, adding that the municipal would become one of the modern 24-hour livable cities by 2025.
“Security is one of the most important elements. In the past, Ashaiman municipality was always in the news for bad reasons in terms of security.
But now, the general security situation in the municipality has greatly improved”, he said.
Mr Okyere explained that the reported case of robbery reduced from 104 in 2016 to 50 last year, whilst murder cases decreased from 8 to 6 during the same period.
According to him, “discussions were underway to institute a Municipal Security Fund to support security activities.”
He said the assembly in collaboration with the private sector had constructed 500-units of stalls at the New Mandela Market, 85-units of lockable stores at Valco Flats, 80 sheds at Obakatse and 69 sheds at the main market.
The MCE added that AshMA has also completed a 12-unit classroom block at Tsui Bleoo, a modern FG Block at Community 22 Annex Basic School, fenced a 12-unit classroom block at Presby and the E-Block Senior High School almost completed.
“Under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty programme, household beneficiaries have increased from 52 to 234 and last year, 127 People With Disabilities were supported in various forms with a total of GH¢213,450.”
According to Mr Okyere drainage works had been done at Tulaku, Middle East and roads gravelled at AshMA-police station and Starlight. AshMA is constructing a new 3-storey administration block and an official residence for the MCE.
