The facility is expected to help increase the bed capacity at the maternity block and address congestion in the wards.

OtumfuorOsei Tutu II commissioned the facility as part of the activities to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the university.

Present at the commissioning ceremony last Wednesday were the Minister of Education, DrOseiAduTwum, the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson, and the Chairman of KNUST Council, Ambassador Nana Effah-Apenteng, and Dr Frank AwuahAdjei, a philanthropist whose name was given to the building.

The facility is expected to improve the hospital’s maternal healthcare services to the university’s community as well as residents in neighbouring communities.

DrAdjei, the sole financier of the building, said he was honoured that the block had been named after him

“My wife and I thought of building a maternity block following our visit to a friend in a hospital. We were not pleased with what we saw so we decided to build this to support the government,” said Dr. Awuah.

He encouraged affluent Ghanaians to support the government in national development by replicating such a gesture.

“I hope this maternity block would be used effectively to promote quality healthcare in Ghana. I’m encouraging all well-meaning Ghanaians to support the government with the little they have in building a better Ghana,” he said
