Some suspected robbers operating in the Kumasi metropolis have now resorted to stealing of foodstuff from especially the Asafo Market, since the partial lockdown came into effect on Monday.
The suspects, according to the market women started the act a day after the COVID-19 lockdown took off.
According to the traders the security personnel alerted them to leave the market before 5p.m “and that makes it possible for thieves to invade the market for their operations”.
They are, therefore, calling on the government to ensure that the security personnel embarking on the lockdown operations protect their goods from theft.
Madam Akua Afriyie, a yam seller explained, “I came the next day only to realise that 30 tubers of yam were stolen all because we were forced to leave the market before the scheduled time of leaving and the securities failed to put the necessary measures in place to monitor.”
She said that “if the security personnel will force us to leave the market before the scheduled time for closing,then they must put the requisite measures in place to clamp down on robbers that might invade the market”.
