ARS high priest bonded to be of good behaviour for one year

The high priest of the Apostle Revelation Society (ARS), Rev Nyeenyami Etsey Wovenu, has been bonded to be of good behaviour for one year by a Ho High Court in the Volta Region.

In default, he would serve a two-year jail term in hard labour or pay an amount of 1000 penalty units (GHS12, 000).

This was after Rev Wovenu was found guilty of disobeying an earlier court order, which directed him to involve all the executive members of the ARS in the celebration of the recent 79th anniversary of the church, at Tadzewu, in the Volta Region.

The executive members of the ARS are the highest decision making body of the church.

Rev Wovenu was earlier in 2011, found guilty over a similar issue by an Accra High Court, which committed him to 14 days imprisonment.

The court’s decision followed an application of contempt of court filed by the registered trustees of the ARS.

Giving judgement, the court said it took into account Rev Wovenu’s status as a high priest of a church and that there was no need to destroy the church.

The Ho High Court Judge, Mr Justice Matthew Kyeremanteng, craved the indulgence of the members of the ARS to bury their differences for the church to move on in peace.

The court awarded a cost of GHS 10,000 in favour of the applicants.
