The proprietor of Bilal Forex Bureau at Tema Community 25, Devtraco, Alhaji Osman Jadad, was on Tuesday shot dead instantly by suspected armed robbers at Dahwenya.
This happened when Alhaji Jadad, was on his way to transact business with a client, who was yet to be identified.
The Prampram District Police Commander, Superintendent Issah Mohammed Cantona, confirmed the incident to the Ghanaian Times.
He said a few days before the robbery attack and killing, Alhaji Jadad received a phone call from a client that he wanted to change $80,000 dollars into cedi notes.
Sup Cantona said the deceased agreed to get the said amount for his client, but explained that he had to rely on other colleagues in Tema and Accra since the amount was huge.
The Police Commander said Alhaji Jadad told the client that he had the money in cedi notes and he could come for it at the forex bureaux.
Sup Cantona said the client, however, asked Alhaji Jadad to meet him somewhere at Dahwenya for the transaction.
The Police Commander said two colleagues of Alhaji Jadad discouraged him (Alhaji Jadad) not to meet the client at Dahwenya,
because the amount involved was huge.
Sup Cantona said the deceased assured his colleagues that he would seek police escort from the Dahwenya Police.
The Prampram District Police Commander said, however, Alhaji Jadad and the two colleagues left to transact business with the client without police escort, and on their way, Alhaji Jadad realised that the phone of the client had been switched off.
Sup Cantona said suddenly two men on motorcycle shot at the vehicle Alhaji Jadad and his colleague were using.
The deceased received gunshot wounds and lost control, and in the process knocked down the two men on the motorcycle into a gutter.
Sup Cantona said the robbers went into the vehicle and seized the money from Alhaji Jadad and his colleagues, and sat on the motorcycle and sped off.
The District Police Commander called on the public to assist the police arrest the culprits.
