Armed gang robs patients at Manhyia Govt Hospital

Three suspected robbers caused a stir when they attacked patients at the Manhyia Government Hospital, in Kumasi, and robbed them of their mobile handsets unspecified amount of money and beverages.

The robbers, said to be armed with AK47 assault rifles, were said to have resorted to indiscriminate firing of gunshots as they stormed the out-patient-department and emergency unit of the hospital.

They were said to have started robbing the patients from the emergency ward and then to the main ward where they resorted to taking away the beverages of the patients.

According to eye witnesses, the incident took place at about 3:00am on Thursday, October 24, 2019.

The Ghanaian Times learnt that personal belongings of some nurses and patients were also taken away, and patients on drips had to abandon their beds and fled.

Most of the patients were able to escape living the nurses on duty at the mercy of the robbers.

Security personnel on duty who could not handle the situation also took to their heels at the time of the unfortunate incident.

Administrator of the Hospital, Emmanuel Adzei, confirmed the incident, and added the victims were still counting their losses.

He said patients who ran away whiles on drips, returned to their beds after the incident.

The incident, according to the Administrator, was the first of its kind at the hospital.
