President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has announced that the list of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) will be released before the end of September.
Announcing this on Saturday, in an interview on Skyy Power FM in Takoradi, on the second leg of his tour of the Western Region, he explained that “the last time, we were in office, we found ourselves making new appointments before the elections.”
He continued:”I want to make sure about the people I am calling to help me. It is not an easy task.”
President Akufo-Addo again stated that there was the need for a broader consultation, and “that is what I have done.”
He told listeners that he set up committees to make recommendations, and had to ensure that they would suit the political purposes of the government.
“By the end of September, everything would be resolved.” the President assured.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has retained the District Chief Executive of Sefwi Akontombra, Mr Yawson Amoah, in the Western North Region, during a courtesy call on the chief of the area, Nana Kwabena Bioh II, on Sunday.
He described the views that there were no DCES in office as false saying “All the people who were MMDCEs in my first term are still at post so there’s no vaccum in local government in Ghana.”
Earlier on Saturday, the President inspected progress of work on the construction of the sea defence wall at Dixcove, performed a sod- cutting ceremony for the reconstruction of the Tarkwa –Agona Nkwanta highway, being undertaken by M/S Gabriel Couto-Rango, with an injection of 95 million Euros from Deutche Bank AG, Frankfurt of Germany, to open up the Western Region.
He also addressed a durbar at WassaAkropong under the chairmanship ofOmanhene of WassaAmenfi,TetreteOkumoaSekyimII, as part of histwo-day tour of the Western Region, to interact with the chiefs and people and also explain government policies in fulfilment of the aspirations of the communities.
