Angolan President, João Lourenço pays 3-day official visit to Ghana

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will today hold bilateral talks with the President of Angola, João Manuel Goncalves Lourenço, who is in Ghana for a three-day official visit.

The two leaders will also preside over the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Political Consultations between Ghana and Angola by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs from both countries.

President João Lourenço arrived in Accra yesterday at the invitation of President Akufo-Addo, who was in Angola in August 2019, for a 2-day official visit at the Angolan leader’s request.

The purpose of the visit is to strengthen the economic ties between Ghana and Angola to enable both countries to explore possible areas of co-operation for their mutual benefits.

The Angolan leader, who was met on arrival at the airport by the Minister of Defence, Dominic Nititwul, is expected to lay a wreath and plant a tree at the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum in Accra.

He will also be hosted to a State Banquet at the Jubilee House by President Akufo-Addo later today.

Tomorrow Tuesday, August 3, President João Lourenço will visit the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and interact with the Secretary General of the body, Wamkele Mene.

He is expected to address Parliament tomorrow before departing for Angola on Wednesday.
