AngloGold Ashanti supports GAF with computers, air conditioners

AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, has donated six computers and four air conditioners to the Department of Legal Services of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

Juliet Manteaw-Kutin, Head of Legal and Corporate Affairs, at AngloGold Ashanti, who presented the equipment to the department, in Accra, said that the swift response to the request made by the military, was to show appreciation for its support to the company.

She said: “We have received immense support and protection from the military, especially when we experienced the invasion of illegal miners at our Obuasi concession.”

Mrs Manteaw-Kutin pledged AngloGold Ashanti’s commitment to its stakeholders, especially those in the mining community.

She indicated that “as a mining company, we believe in making the communities that we work in better. We were able to restart the Obuasi mine partly because of the support given to us by our stakeholders over the years”.

She said AngloGold Ashanti would, therefore, continue to build partnerships with stakeholders and support them just as they supported the company.

Receiving the equipment on behalf of the military, Major General Thomas Oppong Peprah, Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters of the GAF in Accra, said that the Department of Legal Services needed the equipment to augment its existing computers and air conditioners.

He stated that, “I am pleased that AngloGold Ashanti has responded to our request. The equipment donated have come at the right time. They will go a long way to improve productivity in the workforce.”

Colonel B. Amuah-Boakye, Director General of the Department of Legal Services, GAF, stated that, “The company’s quick response to our needs serves as an incentive for us to continue with our engagement with your esteemed organization.”

He said that “although we deal with several corporate organisations, we are impressed with the step AngloGold Ashanti has taken to support the army, a testament to their good intentions”.

Col Amuah-Boakye thanked AngloGold Ashanti for the gesture, saying, “If all companies will respond and recognise the effort of the military, and show appreciation like AngloGold Ashanti has done, this will give us the impetus to continue working selflessly for the nation.” –GNA
