The All Nigerian Community (ANC), an organisation of all Nigerians living in Ghana has urged its members to be united and development-driven to help save some of its members from illicit trades.
According to them, several Nigerians living in Ghana were engaged in illegal activities such as commercial sex work which had created a negative image for all Nigerians in the country.
Speaking at a unity press conference in Accra, Wednesday, the President of the ANC, Dr Albert Asaolu said efforts had been made by the ANC to rescue some of the people engaged in such illegal activities by “rescuing, repatriating and reuniting them with their families back in Nigeria.”
The ANC, he stated had been engaging the Ghana Immigration Services and other security agencies to arrest all cartels or individuals involved in the trafficking of Nigerian citizens into Ghana.
This he said, would ensure that all Nigerians come to Ghana by their own free will and also not engage in any form of illegal activities to survive.
“I want to call on the government of our host country to help us speak to the law enforcement agencies to tamper Justice with mercy in how Nigerians are handled here. Our experience shows that all crimes committed are mostly attributed to Nigeria which is not so,” he added.
He appealed to the Nigerian High Commission to negotiate with the government of Ghana for the free flow of businesses and citizens to establish the two countries as the economic hub of Africa and the world.
“India is 1.4 billion people and Ghana and Nigeria put together is not up to a fourth of this population. Let’s think inward and improve our economies. I agree that we will have a few challenges but, every challenge will always have a solution,” he explained.
He further hinted that the ANC as part of efforts to strengthen the ties between Ghana and Nigeria would organise trade fairs, and peace and economic summits each year.
