Anagblah Mem. Cup tourney kicks off

The Jordan Anagblah Memorial Cup tournament for second division clubs in the Greater Accra region has kicked off at the Legon Presec Park in Accra.

Put together by ‘Friends of Jordan Anagblah’ and sponsored by Nii Cudjoe & Associates, the tournament seeks to honour the memory of the late football administrator and to also keep the teams active during the period of normalisation.

To be played in a form of a mini World Cup tournament, a total of 64 clubs would be categorised into eight groups and made up of 8 teams with each group divided into two – Groups 1A and 1B made up of four teams, who will play three matches at 16 venues.

Group winners will progress to the round of 32 where winners of the various games will move to the round of 16, until the final two reaches the finals.

Centers to host the competition include Aquinas, Nania Park, Indafa, Charity Park, Oyarifa, Police Depot, Alajo, Okwawu, Nungua Town Park, Tema Stadium and Klagon.

The winner of the tournament will receive a trophy, cash prize and balls whiles the runners up will take home balls and cash prize.

Performing the opening ceremony, Nana Odupong Wellington, a member of the erstwhile Premier League Board tasked teams in the tournament to exemplify the lifestyle of the late astute football administrator.

In the opening games of the tournament Pofmade FC thrashed Miracle FC 5-1, Golden Youth won 1-0 over Still Believe, Star Makers lost 1-0 Golden Strikers while Asoya FC defeated Mobile Phone People 3-1.
