Amplify Change, an NGO in partnership with the Ghana National Association of the Deaf (GNAD) has presented 25 boxes of Yazz sanitary pads and three boxes of antiseptics (Dettol) to the Bechem School for the Deaf in the Ahafo Region here on Friday.
The items worth GH¢ 7,000.00 was to be distributed to female adolescents of the school to improve their menstrual hygiene and their education.
The donation forms part of the social corporate responsibility of Amplify Change which is implementing a three-year project on menstrual hygiene of adolescent girls for some selected basic and senior high schools across the country.
Mr Eric Sapei Jnr., Project Officer of Amplify Change told the Ghanaian Times that the project sough to train about 1,000 deaf people including adolescent girls to know about their menstrual hygiene.
It is also to empower them to deal with the challenges associated with menstruation which impacts negatively on their education.
He said 100 students made up of 40 boys and 60 girls of Bechem School for the Deaf had been trained on menstrual hygiene with similar training being held in schools in the Northern, Eastern and Volta regions.
The Principal of Bechem School for the Death, Mrs AliceOppongAdubea, who received the items on behalf of the students commended the NGO for the support for the school and assured that the items would be given to beneficiary students.
She expressed her gratitude to GNAD for the inclusive education the school was receiving through the various support and encouragement.
She appealed to other benevolent organisations to emulate the shining example of Amplify Change to come to the aid of the school.
