Amen and Amen Institute, a Non-Government Organisation has donated a cash for GH¢10,000 to the Ministry of Agriculture (MOFA) towards the celebration of this year’s World food Day (WFD).
The donation was part of the Institute’s corporate social responsibility to the United Nations(UN) in achieving food security and eliminating hunger.
The event slated for Friday, October 15,is on the theme ‘’Our actions are our future, better production, better Nutrition,better Environment and a better life’’ would be organised at the Faculty of School of Agriculture, University of Ghana, Legon, Accra.
The Founder of the Institute, Mr Amen Amereynolds Amen, in making the presentation in Accra yesterday said the institute had been partnering with the UN for annual celebration of the WFD since 1997.
He called on the government to adopt technology and scientific approach to promote agriculture to help sustain the economy.
‘’We must encouraged more youth in the country to venture in agriculture and not only on white collar jobs to develop the talents but also help to ensure food stability and sustain the country’s economy, ’’ he added.
Mr Amen commended the government, through MOFA, for putting in place innovative measures to improve the sector.
He assured the Ministry of the institute’s continuous support to help in achieving its goals and aspirations.
The Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr Robert Patrick Ankobiah, who received the donation stressed the need to promote food security, good food to ensure healthy growth.
Mr Ankobiah stressed the need promote resilience to enhance food security.
‘’We must support systems to promote to build resilience food system in the country,’’he added
The Chief Director said Ghana must push for the Ghana beyond aid agenda to protect and ensure sustainability of food in the country.
He thanked the institute for the kind gesture and their support over the years and called for more of such partnership.
Mr Ankobiah assured the members of the Institute that the money would be used for its intended purpose.
He called on other organisations to support the Ministry in the celebration of the WFD, adding that Government alone cannot ensure food security in the country.
To commemorate the event, the National Planning Committee has outline a number of activities which include television and radio talk shows, float and a flag raising ceremony.
