The Victory Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Akyem Awenare, a farming community in the Atiwa West of the Eastern Region District on Sunday dedicated its new church building and a manse.
It was dedicated by the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, Rt Reverend Professor Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante and assisted by the Akyem Abuakwa Presbytery Chairman, Rev Dr Seth Kissi, the former Moderator of the Church, Very Rev Prof. Emmanuel Martey and a host of other ministers of the gospel.
Construction of the church which was started with support from individuals, was taken over and completed with fully furnished modern furniture and equipment by the siblings of a former Senior Presbyter, late Daniel Abrokwa, father of the Member of Parliament for Atiwa West Constituency, Mr Kwasi Amoako-Atta, in memory of their late father.
The siblings of the late Opanyin Daniel Abrokwa also constructed a manse.
The joyful occasion was graced by Ministers, Catechists, traditional rulers and political figures.
Preaching the sermon on the theme; “Jesus is the light of the world” with scriptures from Isaiah 60:1, , Rt Rev Prof Mante, said the gesture by the children of the late Opanyin Abrokwa to build a befitting place of worship was a testimony of his love for Christianity and how he trained his children to fear God.
“In this country, many people use their money to do useless things but these children have opted to use their money to build a place of worship and also provide accommodation for Reverend Ministers to live”, he said.
He admonished Christians to let their lives, holiness, and steps depict Jesus Christ who is the light of the world, but not be sycophantic Christians who still live in sin and representing evil characters in the society.
“One of the things that are important to me is that Christians are not called upon to have what I call a dull mentality but the mentality of faith that says that all things are possible and if we have that mentality, we will always rise from poverty”, he
Dr Seth Kissi reading a brief history of the congregation said the Akyem- Awenare Victor Presbyterian Church which falls under the Kwabeng District was established in 1938.
