Agritech West Africa showcases new technologies in agriculture , agribusiness

This years Agritech West Africa, Food & Beverage Ghana and FoodPack Tech Ghana exhibition, which seeks to create platform to discuss agriculture and agribusiness and showcase solutions, products and solutions, has been launched.

The programme scheduled for March 19-21, is being organised by Wegvoraus Exhibitions under the auspices of Ministry of Food and Agriculture and Ministry of Trade and Industry.

The programme expected to attract 5000 businesses and visit is also being supported by the West Africa Chamber of Agriculture, Croplife Ghana, Association of Ghana Industries, Ghana Union of Traders, Food and Beverage Association of Ghana, Farmer Organisation Network of Ghana, Federation of Association of Ghanaian Exporters and Guzakuza.

Speaking at the launch in Accra on Wednesday, the Project Director of Agritech West Africa, Thomas James of Agritech West Africa said exhibition was to create for companies in agriculture, food and beverage space to showcase their technologies.

He said programme was also to help local companies build and strike partnership to expand their businesses.

“The expo will be great platform for the exhibiting companies coming from different parts of the world to meet with Ghanaian and West African business partners, including growers, manufacturerS and traders/distributors to discuss new products and collaborate for business partners; and moreover, introduce and adapt new innovations in practice of agriculture and food processing packaging sector, ” he said.

Mr Thomas said the event would have seminars and conference running concurrently for two days and bring government ministries, department and agencies along with commercial farmer group, research institutions, trade association, chambers of commerce to discuss thought ideas, innovations and current issues related to the sector.

“The event is very much in line with the development goals of the Ghana government’s commitment to value-added agriculture to national economy and targeted food security, ” he said.

Mr James said the exhibition would bring close to 5000 business and professional visitors directly and indirectly linked and related to the sector from agribusiness sectors, commercial and small farmers and farmer groups, importers, distributors, wholesalers to showcase agricultural, equipment, technologies and solutions.

The President of Ghana Traders Union (GUTA), Dr Joseph Obeng commended organisers for the programme.

He said the programme would create opportunity for businesses to showcase their products.

Dr Obeng said such programmes helped to explore new markets and sources of products.
