Africa U-18 Baseball5 Youth Championship LOC inaugurated

An eight-member Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the Africa U-18 Baseball5 Youth Championship has been inaugurated in Accra.

The Committee, chaired by Mr Usman Kweku Etuaful, has Messrs Jeffrey Kumi Manzan Owusu, Emmanuel Frimpong, Edmund Ackom, Alexander Tieku, Berthold Paa Joe Gadagbui, Felix Berbiye and Miss Farida A. Iddriss.

Prof. Peter Twumasi, Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) who swore-in the committee last Wednesday, said the LOC was key to the success of the championship and charged the members to work very hard towards it.

“The success of the championship would please the rest of Africa, but that would depend solely on you members of the LOC, so take this duty with the seriousness it deserves and make sure you deliver a competition par excellence.”

President of the GBSF, Mr Ernest Danso, disclosed that his outfit would need about GH¢2.4 million to host a successful championships.

The event scheduled for May 14-23 in Cape Coast will serve as qualifier for the inaugural Youth Baseball5 World Cup (YBWSC).

World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Africa in November last year handed Ghana the hosting rights of the Africa qualifier, after beating countries like Zimbabwe and South Africa in a competitive bid process.

The Youth Baseball5 World Cup is a mixed-gender event for the 15-18 year olds.
