Administrators urged to comply strictly with ethical principles

Administrators in public and private institutions have been advised to comply strictly with the ethical principles of their institutions to enhance organisational productivity and growth.

Associate Professor of Marketing at the University of Professional Studies Accra, Kofi Osei-Frimpong, said, respect for ethics was critical as they formed the backbone of any professional institution.

To this end, he has charged employees and company executives not to take advantage of the recent global crisis to disregard the ethics of their profession as a means of driving profits.

He was speaking at the 44th National Mandatory Continuing Professional Education and 21st Graduation and Induction Ceremony organised by the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants – Ghana in Accra over the weekend.

The event was on the theme “Enhancing Professional Practice through Ethical Discipline and Networking.”

“Irrespective of the times we find ourselves in, we should still remain focused, allow our ethical standards to guide us in all we do, in our offices and personal encounters and that would define what we are and it would sustain our business,” Professor Osei-Frimpong explained.

He underscored the need for administrators and management consultants to be abreast with the latest form of technology as it was a major driver of all things happening both locally and internationally.

“In order to sustain our businesses as professionals, we need to extend our business to the online market,” he said.

Prof.Osei-Frimpong appealed to all persons in the public sector to adopt positive attitudes in accordance with their institutions ethical principles and treat customers as valuable persons.

He charged the inductees to take advantage of any situation they find themselves into network and not provide excuses such as they are shy.

“Today’s business is not about what you know but it’s about who you know that can lead you to places and influence decisions so your ability to build a relationship in your network is key in surviving,” the Professor added.

A member of the Council of State, Prof. Margaret Ivy Amoakohene on her part said executives, board members and administrators should exploit areas of branding, ethical discipline and networking to build a professional family.

She said networking was key in every profession as it provides opportunity to interact with top industry players and build long term beneficial relationships.

Prof.Amoakohene congratulated the inductees for their academic feat and urged them to emulate the knowledge they had acquired from the classroom and at all times abide by the ethical principles of the profession.
