Administrative officer remanded for alleged theft, forgery

An administrative officer, Nana Nhyira Agyapong,  has been remanded in police custody by an Accra Circuit Court for stealing GH¢1,079,728.00, belonging to his employers.

He has also been charged with forgery of official documents but he denied all the offences.

 The court presided over by Mrs Ellen Ofei-Ayeh,  adjourned the case to  April 4, 2022.

Police Inspector Rosemond Anyane told the Court that the complainant in the case, Charles Antwi Boahen, was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kabfam Company Limited, while accused was the Administrative Officer of the company.

The court heard that on March 4, 2022, Agyapong was asked to deposit GH¢800,000.00 into the Zenith Bank Account of the company’s suppliers, Durachem Limited – Project.

Insp Anyane said accused submitted to Mr Boahen, the complainant, Zenith Bank deposited slip with received stamp, dated March 4, 2022, with face value GH¢800,000.00, to indicate proof of deposit.

Prosecution said the complainant forwarded a copy of the deposit slip to his suppliers as proof of payment.

Insp Anyane said that on March 14, 2022, Mr Boahen received feedback from his suppliers indicating that no money had been deposited into their account on the said date.

The prosecution said when the complainant confronted Agyapong over the matter, he confessed to him that he did not deposit any money on the said date and that the pay-in slip he gave him was forged.

Insp Anyane said when complainant carried out internal audit of the company funds, which accused supervised, he detected that an additional GH¢279,728.00 had been stolen totaling GH¢1,079,728.00.

The court heard that the complainant reported the case to the police and accused was arrested for investigation.

Insp Anyane said accused admitted the offence in his investigation, and sated that he used the money to stake Sporty bet and 1Xbet, but lost.

Prosecution said accused stated that he failed to deposit the money, but went to the banking hall, filled the deposit slip form at the Bank Teller Room, and applied the received stamp on the duplicate when the teller was not looking. – GNA
