ActionAid Ghana, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has handed over a two-unit kindergarten block to the people of Badu-Drobo, in the Bono region.
The block, which was funded by the ActionAid Italy, has sanitary facility, mechanised water, furniture, teaching and learning materials and a playground.
John Nkaw, Interim Country Director, ActionAid Ghana, at the handing over ceremony, said that the “building of the model facility is an exhibition of ActionAid’slong-standing commitment and determination to promote the rights of all citizens to equitable access to good-quality, child-friendly public education that build confidence and self-esteem of people to demand transparency and accountability from duty bearers.”
He said that despite the provisions in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, which stated that “All persons shall have the right to equal educational opportunities and facilities and with a view to achieving the full realization of that right.”Some people in urban, peri-urban and rural areas in the country, did not have access to quality education.
MrNkawappealed to stakeholders to ensure the school is handled by trained early childhood teachers.
Hajia, Vice Board Chairman, ActionAid Ghana, called on members of the community to take keen interest in the maintenance of the facility.
Justina OwusuBanahene, Bono Regional Minister, praised ActionAidfor building the kindergarten towards the development of education.
She urged ActionAid to continue to contribute to contribute to the development of education, health, water, and sanitation.
Ms Banahene, said that the government alone could not solve problems, and urged citizens to contribute to national development.
She asked members of Badu-Droboto initiate development projects without necessarily waiting on the District Assemblies.
Dr Loiusa Acheampong, Tain District Chief Executive, called on parents to provide the needs of their children.
The Chief of Badu-Drobo, Nana Abu Bakari, assured ActionAid and stakeholders to properly maintain the facility to ensure its sustainability.
