‘Acquisition of Ghana Card will address emergencies’

The Shai Osudoku District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education, Madam Janet Wahiermeh, has urged residents to turn out massively and register for the Ghana card.

Getting the card, she explained, was a national pride, an opportunity that should not be missed by any Ghanaian since the digital address system used in the registration would help in the easy identification of holder’s residential address in cases of emergencies.

Madam Wahiermeh made the call on Monday when her outfit embarked on a sensitisation programme in the district to whip up the interests of residents in the ongoing exercise.

The communities visited included Dodowa, Wedokum, Ayikuma, Tokpo, Agbekotsekpo, Asutsuare, Agormeda and Sota.

With the Ghana card, Madam Wahiermeh indicated that the citizenry could travel within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) sub-region without a visa or passport.

“The card is an important tool for proof of identity of every Ghanaian, hence the need for every Ghanaian to be part of the exercise, the difficulties in acquiring a passport, drivers license, clearing of goods at the port, registration of businesses, credit information and receipt of banking services would be a thing of the past with the acquisition of the card.

“As every information needed to transact such business will be provided by the card, the holders of the card stand to benefit immensely from any government interventions earmarked for their communities,” she noted.

Madam Wahiermeh charged the residents not to see the teething challenges they encountered at the registration point as a hindrance, but rather support the officials to overcome their challenges.
