Accra Turf Club announces break in racing calendar

The Board of Stewards of the Accra Turf Club has announced a break in the current horse-race season organised under the auspices of the Horse- Owners Association (HOA).

Mr. Samuel Nii Armah Turkson, the secretary to the Board which announced the decision on Wednesday said notice has been sent to the horse-owners, trainers, jockeys and casual workers of the Turf Club.

He explained that the break in the horse racing calendar was to enable the club carry out maintenance work in the premises of the club.

According to Mr. Turkson, the perimeter fence, main gate and the area which has been outgrown by weeds, needed to be put in shape before the rains to ensure good and safe racing in the tracks.

He said as soon as the maintenance work was completed, the date for resumption of races, especially for the Homowo Open events would be duly announced.

He has accordingly asked the general public, particularly, horse racing fans to bear with the situation and exercise the necessary restraint as the Board put in measures to ensure safe and interesting racing events in the calendar.
