Accra-Tema train passenger service resumes operation today

The Accra-Tema train passenger service which was suspended temporarily for rehabilitation works is scheduled to resume operations today(Monday), management of the Ghana Railway Company Ltd (GRCL) has announced.

It said, after successfully addressing some technical challenges, the GRCL conducted series of test runs and then, a final joint inspection was carried on July 7, 2022 together with the Ghana RailwayDevelopment Authority (GRDA), to ascertain the suitability of the line for passenger service, a release signed by Deputy Managing, Roger Kofi Anipa and copied to the Ghanaian Times said.

The GRDA, which is the industry regulator, has granted GRCL the approval to commence the shuttle service with letter No. ZA 121/384/02 dated July 13, 2022, it added, assured the general public of “our usual comfortable, safe and punctual service GRCL provides.”

“The general public is being advised to bear with us, that as a start, a restricted speed limit of 35km/h has been imposed on the movement of the train to enable technical team to continue to address any teething problem that may emerge during these early stages of resumption of the shuttle service.

“There would also be GRCL official on board the train to obtain the views and concerns of commuters to enable management address them to ensure smooth running of the passenger service to the best satisfaction of our clients,” the release added.
