Accra Lions win to go top

Accra Lions bagged a fourth straight win in the ongoing betPawa Ghana Premier League (GPL) on Saturday when they defeated visiting Nsoatreman FC 2-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

A goal from winger Daniel Kwame Awuni and an own goal from defender Richard Akrofi, both in the first half, gave the Lions the advantage that took them to the summit of the league table.

The visitors started impressively, attacking the Lions with Samuel Ofori and Baba Mahamatesting goalkeeper Andrews Owusu.

But 10-minutes into the game, the Lions snatched the opener with their first meaningful attack with Hagan Frimpong setting up Awuni for a fine finish.

Awuni nearly turned a provider as he setup Frederick Asante but he fired wide off target.

The Lions found their rhythm and pushed the Nsoatreman lads into their own half, forcing them to commit errors, one of which saw a defender, Akrofi scoring an own goal with an attempted clearance on the 30th minute mark.

Back from the break, Nsoatreman FC, handled by Coach Mohammed Gargo, lifted their game and dominated but failed to find the back of the net.
