Accra Legon East Rotary 2 projects worth GH₵520,000Club to undertake

The Rotary Club of Accra Legon East has committed to the rehabilitation of the paediatrics ward of the Legon Hospital and the construction of a school library for the Tower of David Academy at Dodowa.

The two projects, worth GH₵520,000, forms part of the club’s activities to celebrate the attainment of 100% Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) status.

Speaking at a breakfast meeting to officially announce the 100% PHF achievement on Saturday, Rotary President Pamela Ellen Batiir said they were committed to contributing to national development, hence the need to undertake the projects in celebration of their new status.

“One of the pillars of an effective Rotary Club is to undertake sustainable service projects that meet the needs of the community, and that is what we intend to do with the upcoming projects,” she stated.

Attainment of the PHF status, she said, meant that they needed to do more within the communities with regards to humanitarian activities.

The PHF recognition acknowledges individuals with contributions of $1,000 dollars or multiples thereof made in their name to the Rotary Foundation established in 1957 in honour of the legacy of founder Paul Harris.

Currently, there are about 1.5 million Paul Harris Fellows whose donations form a strong line of contribution to the Rotary Foundation which provides funding for the numerous humanitarian projects undertaken by the Rotary clubs.

“The Rotary Club of Accra-Legon East has been very proactive with our contributions to the Rotary Foundation and we are the first club in the district to achieve a high per capital of $296.05 (as at February 20,2020), having made a total contribution of $65,756 to the Rotary Foundation,” she stated.

These contributions to the Rotary Foundation, she said, have pushed the club to attain the important milestone of a 100% Paul Harris Club status.

Guest speaker for the occasion, Sam Worentetu, congratulated the club on their achievement, adding that it would inspire other clubs to work hard to attain the PHF status.

He challenged them to maintain their status though it also imposed on them onerous responsibility of ensuring that they do not turn out to be flashes in the pan.
