The District Chief Executive for Biakoye, Millicent Kabuki Carboo, has stated that accounting to the people is the hallmark of good governance and rule of law which should be sustained to accelerate growth and development.
She noted that the district had made remarkable progress in all sectors through accounting to the people, goodwill, support and assistance from traditional authorities and other stakeholders.
“Although there might be challenges, it is important for residents to be united and peacefully coexist even in their diversity of thoughts and ideological standpoint so as to sustain them to achieve a lot together and promote justice,” Ms Carbo entreated.
Addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of the district at Worawora she assured them of facilitating the establishment of structure for stakeholder participation that may include town hall meetings and other avenues for participation of the people in local governance.
Ms Carboo said the Assembly liaised with Ghana Enterprises Agency to create the Business Advisory Centre which was fully operationalised to boost trade and commerce, especially among residents, indigenes and provide skills training and information within the local economy including15, 000 coconut seedlings distributed serving as source of employment for the youth under the Planting for Export and Rural Development.
“The Assembly supported, assisted and facilitated Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics innovation projects aimed at introducing technology, especially in robotics, to children at the basic and Senior High levels and health screening, behavioural change communication, counselling, testing, health walk among others.
“With the help of the Security Council, the district continues to enjoy peace and stability, traditional leaders should amicably solve pockets of chieftaincy disputes and land litigation in some communities since the district is endowed with rich cultural diversity with several tourist attractions, including Konklobi Island at Adzamansu, water cascades and caves at Bowiri Aboabo and beach front at Odormitor, which can be developed,” MsCarboo touted.
Eric Yankson, Oti Regional Internal Auditor, stressed on the need to strengthening citizens claim for effective and efficient local governance and service deliverywhich were critical to ensure sustainability of decentralisation,probity, accountability and transparency towards use of resources.
Okogyeaman Asiedu Koram II, Paramount chief of Apesokubi Traditional Area, commended the district chief executivefor progress, growth and development under her tenure and pledged assistance and support of traditional authorities.
