ACCC to host maiden ‘RideAfrique’ Criterium

The Africa Connect Cycling Club (ACCC), one of the well-branded cycling clubs in the country will on Sunday, organise the first ever cycling challenge dubbed “RideAfrique” at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The 30 laps (105 km) race, which is aimed at promoting the sport as well as unearthing talent, will be held every six months for the first two years and later an annual event outside the country.

Mr Nicholas Akussah, Head of Media of the club, told the Times Sports the competition will be very competitive and is supposed to provide a platform for cyclists to compete.

“ACCC believes the event will bring change to cycling in Ghana and the rest of Africa. We have given Ghana cycling a deserved boost. There is a growing interest in cycling and we can do more to make it great,” he said.

He was upbeat about the development of the sport in the country.

“We are optimistic that Ghana cycling will be number one on the continent very soon. We have seen a vast number of motivated individuals coming forward and willing to put in their time and work to achieve the same goal. That is the beauty of the sport,” Mr. Akussah said.

He appealed to companies to come on board to support the event, adding that, “Together, we can work and make cycling even more popular in Ghana.”
