Abu Jinapor determined to annex Damongo seat in 2020

Samuel Abu Jinapor, a Deputy Chief of Staff has defended his decision to contest the parliamentary primary despite occupying a privileged position currently contrary to rumours that he is seeking insurance to remain in at least an arm of the government.

He debunked an assertion that should the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lose the Jubilee House and the elections in 2020, he would secure his parliamentary seat, however all he wants to do is serve his constituents.

“I am optimistic that Ghanaian voters will give President Akufo-Addo and the NPP a resounding victory in their second term bid in 2020 and we will remain with him [Akufo-Addo] and serve in any capacity given.

“There are no impediments to serving as a Deputy Chief of Staff and a legislator, it is tantamount to the position of a minister who doubles as a Member of Parliament (MP), I will be running in the NPP’s parliamentary primaries on September 28 and going unopposed in the Damongo Constituency in the newly created Savannah Region.

“I owe a sense of gratitude to the people of Damongo and to the NPP, I don’t take that for granted at all, I am running in the primaries unchallenged, already, I have facilitated and undertaken some developmental projects in the constituency and the region.

“I am also aware of my core mandate as an MP, if I do not win, to represent my constituents in parliament but I cannot turn a blind eye on development as well, having hailed from the community, I am unfazed about my potential opponent’s credentials, I am confident of taking him down in his own “backyard,” Mr Jinapor touted.

Should he win the primaries, he would face the National Democratic Congress’s Adam Mutawaliku, who holds the seat presently, has held the seat since 2013, surviving the 2016 general election by 2,000 votes and he is currently the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Mines and Energy Committee. -myjoyonline.com
