Abu Jinapor courts support of regional minister-designates towards galamsey fight

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has courted the support and assistance of Regional Minister-designates to tackle the menace of illegal small-scale mining (galamsey).

Regional Ministers, as representatives of the President in the regions, have an important role to play in the fight, hence his engagement with them, he said..

Speaking at a meeting with all 16 Regional Minister-designates in Accra, Mr Jinapor expressed optimism about winning the fight against illegal small scale mining,“if regional ministers play an active part.

“The real problem and challenge has to do with the illegal small-scale mining, which all of us are very much aware tends to degrade the environment and I think you should take the controlling lead to be our arrowheads.

“I have been vocal about my commitment, dedication and determination to tackle illegal mining since my vetting for my current portfolio and the Ghana National Association of Small-scale Miners have pledged their unflinching assistance, support and help to me and urged me to be resolute in the fight against illegal mining and related activities.

“I can assure you that the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, is committed, dedicated and determined to combat illegal mining, despite the problems and challenges encountered so far and I agree that you will often have people in your own party and chiefs trying to frustrate the fight against illegal mining.

“I also want to give a firm assurance that with all humility and modesty to apply the law without fear or favour,” Mr Jinapor said. –citinewsroom.com
