The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ablekuma West in the Greater Accra Region, Mr George Cyril Bray, has entreated residents to keep the environment clean to make the “Operation clean your frontage” successful.
He said the Assembly would, henceforth, strictly enforce its bye-laws on environmental sanitation to make the municipality clean.
Mr Bray said this when he visited some churches within Dansoman in Accra yesterday.
Accompanied by some health officials of the Assembly, he visited some churches such as the Mount Olivet Methodist Church inDansoman, Possibility Temple of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Dansoman Central, English Assembly of the Church of Pentecost, and Resurrection Power and Living Bread Ministries.
The meetings with the members of the churches were to educate them on the campaign and its bye-laws.
The MCE said keeping the surroundings clean must be a collective responsibility.
“We must all endeavour to make our frontage, including residence and commercial areas clean at all times,” he added.
He said the “Operation Clean Your Frontage” initiative aims at enforcing sanitation regulation within the Greater Accra Region as part of the “Make Accra Work Again” programme being championed by the Regional Coordinating Council.
Mr Bray said sanitary inspectors from the Assembly had been trained to enforce the laws in the communities from February 1, 2022.
He said culprits who flout the laws on sanitation would be summoned to court, fined, and imprisoned or both.
He cautioned the residents in the communities to ensure their surroundings were clean to prevent communicable diseases.
Bishop Yaw Owusu-Ansah of the Resurrection Power and Living Bread Ministries urged the congregation to support the initiative to make it a success.
He said environmental management was biblical, adding that when we don’t take care of the environment we would not be blessed by God.
Bishop Owusu-Ansah stated that it was not the duty of the government alone to ensure a clean environment, but a collective responsibility of all.
“We have to teach people to be responsible citizens at all times,” he added.
Reverend Jonathan Afrigue-Ahali of ICGC, Possibility Temple, commended the Assembly for the initiative and assured the support of the church to ensure a clean environment in the country.
The Superintendent Minister of the Methodist Church Ghana, Mount Olivet Dansoman Circuit, Right Reverend Christopher Andam, in a sermon urged Christians to humble themselves, work as a team and carry the youth along.
“We have a responsibility to ensure the youth also grow in the Lord,” he added.
The Dansoman District Pastor of the Church of Pentecost, Reverend Andrew Okyere, thanked the MCE for the initiative in ensuring a clean environment.
He assured the Assembly of their cooperation to ensure the success of the programme.
