800 children registered for NHIS at Oblieman Opa

More than 800 children within the Oblieman Opa enclave of the Ga West municipality in Accra have been registered to acquire National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards.

The exercise was undertaken under the benevolence of the chief of the area, Nii Ayitey Anumle Oyanka I.

Out of the number, 300 children had their cards renewed whiles, the rest had new cards.

The move formed parts of activities to mark this year’s Homowo Festival celebrated by residents of the area. It also aimed at promoting good health among residents, especially children and the aged.

Speaking on the sidelines of the exercise, Nii Oyanka I underscored the need for traditional and opinion leaders to undertake development projects within their various jurisdictions, instead of focusing only on the sale of lands and dispute resolution.

According to him, good health was essential in the promotion of national development. He explained that, that was why he has focused his attention on ensuring that healthcare was affordable and accessible to indigenes, especially the most vulnerable.

“Children are our future leaders, so let us ensure we include and prioritise their welfare in everything we do. Personally, I do not underrate the significance of promoting child safety. Together we can make the country and world a safer place for all, especially our future leaders,” he said.

He revealed that he would continue to give off his best to alleviate poverty in his catchment area by empowering the youth and providing scholarships to the needy.

Parents of some beneficiaries of the exercise expressed gratitude to Nii Oyanka I for his generous act.

A community member who gave her name as Naa Dromo told the Ghanaian Times that three of her children benefitted from the exercise and thanked the chief for the opportunity.

Another beneficiary, Ivy Okine stated she was able to enrol her two children onto the scheme and it has brought some relief for her.

“Making time to visit the NHIS office to register my wards had always been a challenge so I am very happy Nii Oyanka brought this to our doorsteps without any charges.

It has been very convenient for me and I am grateful, our chief is indeed a perfect example of an exemplary and selfless leader.”
