8.9km Kenyasi-Acherensua road project to be completed by end of year

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr Francis Asen­so Boakye, has given the assurance that the Kenyasi-Acher­ensua road project in the Ahafo Region will be completed this year.

The 8.9-kilometre road project, which was delayed due to funding, has now been provided with money worth of $ 4.5 million by the gov­ernment for the completion of the project.

Only 4km out of the 8.9 km of the Kenyasi-Acherensua road project has so far been asphalted by Newmount with GH¢90 million.

Mr Asenso Boakye, who was not happy about the poor road net­works in the Ahafo Region, gave the assurance that whatever interven­tion needed to be done by his outfit to get roads in the Ahafo area in good shape to alleviate the plight of people, would be his priority.

This came to light on day two of the Road Minister’s tour to the Ahafo Region yesterday.

The minister kicked started the tour with the inspection of the 10.2 km Afirispa-Techire overpass road on the Sunyani-Kumasi highway, being constructed by Alexiboat Construction Company with fund­ing from Newmont.

The project which is 78 per cent complete is left with the laying of asphalt overlay as the major activity.

The minister and his entou­rage also inspected the 40 km Bechem-Techimantia trunk road linking Bechem to Akomadan.

The project, which had been completed and opened to traffic, was constructed by Rango con­struction Company.

The minister in a brief comment commended the contractor for a good job done and assured that similar works would be replicated across the country

The minister later handed over the 43km Tepa-Goaso road project to Kofi Job Construction Company and the contractor promised to mobilise the site soon.

He promised to hand over work before October this year.

During a courtesy call on the Goasomanhene, Nana Akwasi Bosompra ll, the chief commended the government for giving attention to roads in the Ahafo Region after several appeals.

According him, he would give praise to where is due and criticise when the need be.

He appealed to the minister to make sure that contractors work­ing on the roads do a good job to ensure value for the money.

He further said the government promised to construct asphalt over lay on Goaso town roads and that the minister should make sure that work is done according to specifi­cations.

The minister on his part said roads in the area were integral part of road networks the government would work on to provide some respite to the people, looking at the significant contributions of Ahafo Region provides for national development

According to him, government would ensure the release of funds to contractors to expedite work in order to ensure their early comple­tion.
