The maiden National Disability Sports Coaching Course ended at the National Sports College at Winneba on Thursday with over 65 coaches in attendance and 10 facilitators.
The three-day course, held on June 28-30, was sponsored by MC-BBPHYLLS Protocol Consult.
It brought together facilitators from the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports (HPERS) of the University of Winneba (UEW), the National Sports Authority (NSA), National Sports College (NSC) and a few sports coaches including the Head Coach of the national deaf football team, Winfred Chartey Annan.
Opening the session, Dr. Emmanuel Osei Sarpong, a senior lecturer, HPERS, took the participants through basic anatomy and physiology, explaining the various body parts and their functions.
He spoke on the need to put athletes on the right diets to ensure good performance.
Head Coach of the UEW football team, Mr. Nurudeen Ahmed, a CAF License B holdertook the participants through the new principles of defending and attacking in football.
Coach Nurudeen, who doubles as Head Coach of Windy Professionals led a practical sessions, giving demonstrations on principles of loading, defending, attacking and ways for proper recovery training after games.
Other speakers included Mr Wilson Kweku Abedu, Dr. Regina Akuffo Darko, Professor Peter Twum, Director General of the NSA and Madam Salamatu Musah, a World Athletics Instructor.
Mr, Festus Mankattah Annan, Chief Executive Officer of MC-BBPHYLLS Protocol Consult expressed satisfaction about the course and called for it sustenance as a boost for disability sports development.
