6 arrested over murder of 2 policemen at Zuarungu refused bail

The Bolgatanga High Court in the Upper East Region, has refused bail application for six persons, alleged to have involved in the murder of two policemen, at Zuarungu, in the Bolgatanga East District, on December 15, last year.

The court presided over by Justice Charles A. Wilson explained that the case was a sophisticated criminal activity that would need more time for police investigation.

He directed the police to investigate the matter thoroughly in the best interest of the public and the administration of justice.

The suspects, who were charged with conspiracy, robbery and murder, are Bapila  A Basantam 32, small-scale miner; Thomas Azure, 42, small scale miner;  AyinbilaAduko, 41, driver; Abdulai Ra-ark  Azure, 37,  Fire Officer; Atampugre Akolgo, 44, mason, and Michael Akolgo,  25, mason.

Justice Wilson ordered the police to transfer the suspects to the Navrongo Prison, instead of keeping them in police custody.

The two policemenGeneral Constable Emmanuel Akowuah and General Constable Adam Sulleydied while on patrol duty on December 15, 2021, at Zuarungu.

They were shot dead and set ablaze by suspected armed robbers.
