5,000 guests to grace 66th Indece celebration in Ho

 The National Planning Committee in collabora­tion with its local counter­part on Wednesday launched the 66th Independence Day activities in Ho, the Volta Regional capital, with the citizenry implored to own the celebration to be success.

The 10 -day celebration to be marked with various activities is on the theme: “Our unity, our strength, our purpose.”

Included in the schedule would be the national flag hoisting day, a clean Ghana campaign, route march by security services, Pres­ident’s Independence Day and climaxed with Awards for school children.

The anniversary logo with the figure ’66’ to depict the 66th Independence Anniversary of Ghana was also unveiled.

The special guest of honour for this year’s anniversary is the President of Guinea Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embalo, also the Chairman of ECOWAS.

Speaking at the launch, Lord Commey, Director of Opera­tions at the Presidency and also the chairman of the National Planning Committee noted that in 2017, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo decided that “our independence was meaningless if it was not linked to other regional celebration.”

“Volta Region therefore becomes the 4th region about to host the national celebration,” he said.

According to him, about 5000 guests across the world were ex­pected to grace the celebration.

Mr Commey emphasied that the celebration was not only go­ing to unite us as one people but would boost the local economy of the Ho Municipality.

He said it would equally project the region to the outside world and open the tourism potentials of the region.

Mr Commey expressed sat­isfaction with the preparations so far, especially at the Regional Resource Centre in Adaklu, the venue and the collective support of the chiefs and people of the region.

Mr Lord Commey noted that he was convinced that this year’s celebration would be one of the best with the enthusiasm of the people.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa, also the chairman of the local planning committee in his remarks noted that it was a great privilege to the people of Volta Region to showcase their potentials and expressed gratitude about the support from all committee mem­bers.

He said the celebration was for all Ghanaians, “no party colours so all must come on board so that we can host this important event.”

Present at the launch were, Service Commanders, Chiefs, religious leaders, political party representatives and civil society organisations.
