50 suspected criminals nabbed in Police swoop in Tamale

The police in Tamale have arrested 50 suspected criminals in a swoop at the Tamale Forest.

The Northern Regional Police Crime Officer, Supt. Bernard B Ananga, who briefed the press about the swoop, indicated that several sheds belonging to the criminal gangs were destroyed and set ablaze.

He mentioned that the operation took place in the morning of Saturday.

The crime officer said the operation was part of efforts by the police command to get rid of criminals in the metropolis.

Supt Ananga stated that most of the criminals in the area and nearby regions were seeking shelter in the forest.

“Intelligence information revealed that most highway robbers and other hardened criminals were hiding in the forest,” he stated.

The Crime Officer mentioned are one allegedly notorious armed robber, AsampanaAyine who was arrested in the swoop after he has been declared wanted by the Upper East Regional Police Command.

According to the police, Ayine had committed a lot of robberies and atrocities in the Upper East Region.

Supt Ananga hinted that the police would continue the unannounced swoop at other similar locations in order to apprehend all criminals hiding in those areas.

He stated that substances suspected to be narcotic substances were found with the suspects at the time of swoop.

The crime officer also mentioned that 29 motorcycles were retrieved in the swoop.

He indicated that the Police would screen them and those found culpable and identified to have committed crimes would be arraigned.
