A Bolgatanga Circuit Court has sentenced five Nigerians to a total fine of GH¢15,000 for possessing and offering for sale, unwholesome products as treatment for stomach ulcer, gonorrhea and teeth care.

They were found to be in possession and offering for sale unwholesome products at Saka, a suburb of Zebilla in the Bawku West District in the Upper East Region.

They were arrested by the personnel of the Ghana Police Service, National Intelligence Bureau and the Ghana Immigration Service in 2022.

The Nigerians were charged with conspiracy to commit crime and possessing and offering for sale unwholesome food/products.

The court presided over by Mr Sumaila Mbache Ahmadu, sentenced Okeene to GH¢3,600 or three years imprisonment in default, Oti, Sunday and Eric, to GH¢3,000 each or two years imprisonment each in default and Ogbonna, GH¢2,400 fine or one year imprisonment in default.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Osman Ndego said all the accused were Nigerians.

Prosecution said the Zebilla District Police Command in conjunction with the NIB personnel and the Ghana Immigration Service arrested accused in a room at Saka, a suburb of Zebilla.

Chief Insp Ndego said a search in the room revealed containers (containing) liquid substances suspected to be unwholesome.

On interrogation, the prosecution indicated, the accused stated that they were employees of Neolife Company, a multi-national company with office in Accra, and head office in the United States of America.

Chief Insp Ndego said that the accused gave the contact of Neolife Office to the police and when a call was made, one Konatu responded and introduced himself as the manager of the Kumasi branch of the company. –GNA
