5 Ejuraman Anglican SHS students hospitalised …following collapse of dining hall

Five students of the Ejuraman Anglican Senior High School (SHS) at Ejura in the Ashanti Region, are in critical condition after the school’s dining hall collapsed, Monday evening, after rainfall.

The students, who were said to have suffered multiple fractures were under intensive care at the Emergency Unit of the Ejura Government Hospital.

The five are among 200 students of the SHS, who were hospitalised after strong winds blew off the school’s dining hall, destroying school property. The students were having supper at the time of the incident.

The Ejura-Sekyeredumasi Municipal Fire Commander, Isaac Adu Yaw, said the police had cordoned off the place, until further investigations to find the cause of the disaster and make recommendations.

The Municipal Director of Education for Ejura/Sekyedumase, Akwasi Frimpong Haruna, told the Ghanaian Times that the authorities were working hard to rehabilitate the dining hall to promote academic activities.

He said “some of the students are currently learning in makeshift facilities under the mercy of the weather sun making it difficult for them to concentrate on their studies”.

Mr Haruna appealed to individuals, organisations and government, to assist the rehabilitate the dinning hall.
