The people of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe which have been abbreviated as SALL are appealing to the government to speed up and fulfill its promise of creating a district for them.
They said since the creation of the Oti Region, they have remained as orphans since they do not belong to any district of Oti Region but also left Hohoe municipality.
They made the appeal to the Oti Regional Minister Nana Kwasi Owusu-Yeboa when he started his maiden tour to personally assess the current situations across the region.
Oti was one of the newly created regions about a year ago’ but one other unique aspect of the region is that, there are some locations within it that are currently not part of any district or municipality. These areas include Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe which have been given the acronym SALL enclave.
They were previously part of the Hohoe Municipality but also part of the ancient Buem-Krachi District that now formed the Oti Region. However, after the creation of the Oti region, these areas could no longer find themselves in any existing district of the Oti Region either. These made them to be orphans in terms of political jurisdiction.
So, as the regional minister started his regional tour from the SALL enclave with interactions from community to community, the main concerns expressed by the people were the creation of the proposed SALL district as promised by the President, Nana Akufo-Addo Dankwa as well as working on the deplorable road networks in the area.
Nana Letsabi, the paramount chief of Santrokofi Traditional area, said their orphanage situation has also made the 13 elected Assembly members redundant as they are still idle and don’t know when they are going to be sworn in to start contributing their best to Ghana’s development.
The Oti Regional Minister urged the chiefs and people of the SALL enclave to support government agencies to speed up development in the region.
He noted that the creation of the region has provided numerous opportunities for the youth to realise their dreams and potentials.
The minister pledged the Oti Regional Coordinating Council support for smooth modalities for the creation of the proposed SALL district.
