4 now arrested in connection with murder of Sogakope Assemblyman

A total of four people have now been arrested in connection with the murder of the Sogakope South Assemblyman, an official statement of the Volta Regional Police Command has confirmed. The four suspects would soon be put before court, the statement affirmed. It renewed the appeal by the police to members of the public to volunteer credible information to help arrest any other person involved in the murder of the assemblyman. A group of unidentified gunmen stormed the house of the Assembly member of the Sogakope South Electoral Area and killed him. According to neighbours of the deceased, the gangsters, numbering about eight, shot him in the head and chest repeatedly and also stabbed him many times in the ribs before bolting with a safe containing an undisclosed amount of money. On March 5, 2020, the Volta Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) E. Oduro Kwateng confirmed the arrest of three suspects to the Ghanaian Times in Ho. They are Doe Abdul, 19; Jude Abatanaye, 22 and Osabu Jacob, 29. He said that the men were picked up in a room at Modzekpo, a suburb of Sogakope on Thursday. The suspects, DCOP Kwateng said, had been brought to the Regional Police Headquarters in Ho and placed in custody. When contacted later, Chief Superintendent Dennis Fiakpui, Sogakope Police Divisional Commander, said that the suspects were not natives of the area. The Regional Police Commander said at a press conference earlier this week that a team of officers from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit in Accra had joined the Volta Regional Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID), in their investigations into the matter. He also reminded the public of the GH₵10,000 reward for credible information to help arrest the culprits. The incident has since left Sogakope in a state of great fear and anxiety
