Four-bedroom house has been burnt in Krofrom in the Manhyia Municipality of Ashanti in a revenge of the killing of a 25 year old man believed to belong to a group of gangs.
Kwabena Azuri, also known as Candyman, was hacked to death by some gangsters defeated by the deceased in a brawl in January 2022.
And, on Friday, gang members of the deceased went wild and set ablaze the family house of one Baffuor, who is suspected to be among the assailants.
Heavy security was deployed in the area to maintain law and order, while the Ashanti Regional Police Command has mounted a manhunt for the perpetrators.
The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Afful Boakye-Yiadom, who went there with his men to assess the situation pleaded with residents to give information that would lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
“We are feverishly searching for them, you know them, you know where they are, provide information to the police,” DCOP Boakye-Yiadom implored the residents.
The murder of Azuri has created fear and panic amongst residents of Krofrom.
Reports suggested that the deceased was lured by his assailants to a quiet place where they
stabbed him multiple times before he died, on Wednesday at about 6:30pm at Osofo Abodwese area of Krofrom.
Residents of Krofrom say such attacks are common in the area.
“Gangsterism is very common here. Reprisal attacks are rife. If you attack a gang member, you have to prepare for a reprisal attack. That has been the norm here,” a resident told the Ghanaian Times.
Earlier, the wife of the deceased, Lydia Opoku, said her husband went out with a friend to buy food, only to hear that he was dead.
“Soon after my husband left, I got a surprise message from friends that my husband has been murdered by some people who he had a scuffle with in 2022,” the wife said.
“I am sure that his death was revenge by the suspects he beat in 2022, which led to one of them losing a finger during the brawl,” she lamented.
