The third edition of the Kofi Annan Peace and Security Forum (KAPS Forum) aims at honouring the memory of the late former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, for his role in peacekeeping and the promotion of global peace and security has been launched in Accra.
Under the theme, “Migration and Societal Resilience in a Multipolar World Order: Addressing Conflicts and Building Peace in Africa,” the two-day forum is slated for February 27 to 28, 2024.
The event would also recognise the role of former African Presidents/Heads of state and other eminent persons in promoting good governance, peace, and security on the African continent.
Additionally, it would help deepen and strengthen the collaboration between KAIPTC, the UN, African Union (AU), the West African economic regional bloc, ECOWAS, governments, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), academia, development partners and private business community.
The Commandant of Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), Maj Gen Richard Addo-Gyane, stressed the significance of migration as a global issue with far-reaching societal and geopolitical implications.
He highlighted the forum as a platform for delegates to explore effective policies and peace building mechanisms to address migration-related conflicts in the region.
Maj Gen. Addo-Gyane also unveiled KAIPTC’s new five-year Strategic Plan spanning from 2024 to 2028.
The plan, he said aims to maintain KAIPTC’s position as a leading international centre for training, education, research, and policy advocacy focused on achieving a peaceful and secure Africa.
`He said the KAIPTC was implementing a new five-year Strategic Plan from 2024 to 2028.
“In this strategic plan, our vision is to remain the leading and preferred international centre for training, education, research and policy advocacy that focuses on peaceful and secure Africa,” he said.
Major Addo-Gyane said the mission is to provide globally recognised and bespoke capacity for all actors on African peace and security through training, education, research, and policy dialogues to foster peace and stability in Africa.
To achieve the vision, he said KAIPTC has taken steps to strengthen the collaboration with its key partners such as the United Nations (UN), African Union (AU), ECOWAS, government institutions, and civil society.
The Deputy Head of Mission, German Embassy, Sivine Jansen, stated that Germany is committed to enhancing the forum’s platform for critical discussions.
She pointed out that the high rate of migration places a double strain, particularly on low and middle-income countries.
