The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested 396 suspected criminals and impounded 792 motorcycles, after swoops in parts of the region.
The swoops were conducted simultaneously within all the 15 Police Divisions in the region, between September 14 and September 20, 2021.
The Head of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Godwin Ahyiano, confirmed the arrest to the Ghanaian Times, some of the suspects were remanded into police custody whilst others were granted bail.
He said the suspects, between the ages of 17 and 55 years, were screened and those found culpable would appear before court.
ASP Ahyiano said owners of the impounded motorcycles, had been asked to produce documents covering them for inspection and verification, and “owners of with fake documents covering motorcycles will be prosecuted.”
He gave the assurance that the police would continue to ensure law and order.
In July this year, the Regional Police Command arrested 30 suspected criminals, who were terrorising residents of Aboabo, Tinker Island and its environs in a similar swoop.
The police retrieved foreign pistols, live cartridges, pair of scissors, assorted mobile handsets, military jackets, wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and tramadol tablets.
The Regional Police Command received complaints of criminal activities, from residents of Aboabo, Tinker Island and other parts of the region.
